Deirdre Sokolowska
Deirdre Sokolowska (they/them) is a Polish settler currently residing in Halifax, also known as K'jipuktuk, on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people. Their creative endeavours delve into the intricacies of mental illness and the lasting impacts of trauma. Deirdre completed the NSCAD film program in 2024 and has written and directed three short films: No Milk Today, Wigilia, and Annie, Are You OK?. Through their work, Deirdre hopes to destigmatize the struggles of mental illness.
In addition to their film work, Deirdre is an illustrator, showcasing their art on Instagram @unwashedace. Their illustrations explore themes of mental health and personal experience, often blending surreal and emotive imagery with bold use of colour. Deirdre's art aims to promote understanding and empathy towards mental health issues.
